Bespoke Safety Group was founded in 2022 by Sarah Alexander.  Over the last 25 years she has consistently delivered value for high profile and challenging operations. Sarah accumulated her extensive international experience whilst working for major oil and gas companies and leading energy providers taking part in significant drilling, completions and construction projects. 


Sarah is degree qualified with a strong technical background in all aspects of Health and Safety (H&S). She is highly skilled in H&S management systems, permit to work systems, crisis management, risk management, safety culture, high-risk work and incident investigation.


By blending technical knowledge, contemporary safety practices with leadership proven in neuroscience, Sarah can help your company achieve a step change in safety culture, engagement and performance.

After emigrating to Australia in 2005, Sarah joined an international health, safety, and risk consultancy that specializes in the oil & gas industry. She quickly advanced into a senior management position, gaining extensive experience in team leadership, budget management, and business strategy, particularly within safety groups. Her role exposed her to a diverse range of projects, including work in shipyards in China and Singapore. Closer to home, she led the development of management systems, procedures, and training programs for major operators while also providing site safety support to start-up CSG drilling firms.

Eager to return to working for an operator, Sarah joined Santos as HSE Lead for CSG Drilling & Completions during the rapid expansion of CSG in Queensland. In this high-paced environment, she managed a team providing in-field HSE support, driving improvements in safety performance and consistency while collaborating closely with contractors and various safety groups. 


Sarah also served as Deputy Chair and Treasurer on the Wellsite Permit to Work Board and played a key role in hosting Wellsite Industry Safety Conferences with over 200 attendees.

Whilst at Santos, Sarah was promoted to a senior leadership role, overseeing five safety groups that supported onshore, offshore, and international drilling activities. She successfully integrated these diverse teams while gaining firsthand experience on drilling rigs in South Sumatra and offshore Australia.


In her final two years at Santos, Sarah transitioned into the Corporate Safety Team as Senior Risk Advisor, where she leveraged her risk management expertise and operational safety experience to transform company-wide risk processes. She led the development of BowTie risk assessments for top risks and delivered enterprise-wide risk training, significantly enhancing risk capability across the organisation.

After 18 years in the oil and gas sector, Sarah sought to explore new opportunities within the resources industry. She joined Origin Energy as Group HSE Manager for Power Generation, becoming part of the leadership team and overseeing HSE and training support for coal, gas, and hydro power stations across Australia, while collaborating with various safety groups. In this role, she updated onsite safety practices and led the Generation safety response to COVID-19, supporting the continuation of energy supply to customers. Demonstrating her strong operational expertise, she also took on the opportunity to act as Power Station Manager, gaining valuable experience in outage management and return-to-service operations.

During her six years at Origin, Sarah coached her team, the leadership team, and Power Station Managers to develop new safety leadership skills and implement contemporary safety techniques. She led the development of a Generation Safety Program, emphasizing peer-to-peer safety training within safety groups, and introduced the Diversity Mentorship Program, which created a network of opportunities and support for women in Generation.


Throughout her career, Sarah has been an active participant in industry forums and committees. While at Origin, she represented the Australian Energy Council in the Standards Australia development of ISO AS/NZS 45001.

Her qualifications across the health and safety disciplines, particularly in heavy industry, are impressive and evident in her work.
